NFL Owners Approve National Anthem Policy for 2018
NFL.com. "NFL Owners Approve National Anthem Policy for 2018." May 23, 2018, https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-owners-approve-national-anthem-policy-for-2018-0ap3000000933971.
Why this matters here
The NFL's May 23, 2018 report records the owners' adoption of a sideline-standing policy, its stay-off-field option, and club fines for on-field violations. The Game We Think We Saw invokes that decision to show an institution trying to define a contested public gesture by procedural rule; that interpretation is the manuscript's, not the NFL's.
